Indrani Mukerjea documentary : Unveiling the Dark Secrets Behind the Sheena Bora Murder

Indrani Mukerjea Story : Netflix on Thursday released a documentary-series titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth’, which focuses on the murder of Sheena Bora. After the Bombay High Court rejected CBI’s appeal, this series came on Netflix.

This docu-series, based on the story of Indrani Mukerjea, who is on trial for the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, was originally scheduled to release on Netflix on February 23.

CBI had appealed in the court against the release of this series, saying that it could impact the judicial process. The High Court had asked the makers to stop the release. On Thursday, the court rejected the CBI’s appeal and allowed the release until the trial of the case is completed.

In April 2012, Sheena Bora’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, her driver Shyamvar Rai, and Indrani are said to have killed her in the automobile. Bora was from Indrani’s earlier relationship and his body was burnt in a jungle in Raigad district of Maharashtra.

The murder came to light in 2015, when Shyamvar Rai, while being arrested in another case, revealed the murder. Mukerjea was arrested in August 2015, and got bail in May 2022. The other accused in the case, Rai, Khanna, and Peter Mukerjea (Indrani’s ex-husband), are also on bail.

According to the CBI, documentaries can affect the morale of the public, which can then affect the morale of the judges too. But, the court said that she had also watched the series, and said that CBI will not make its demand contrary to the series.

Indrani Mukerjea Story : Sheena Bora’s sad story

Sheena Bora, at just 25 years old, met a sad end in April 2012. Through the series it is revealed that her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, had killed her in the car with the help of her class driver Shyamvar Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.

Sheena Bora was killed by a carjacker in April 2012, said Indrani, her driver Shyamvar Rai, and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.

Khanna and Rai asked for the meaning of the murder during the Pattar. But Indrani refuted the allegations, saying Sheena is alive and well in the United States.

During Shyam Rai’s resignation, it was said that the murder was carefully planned, including that Indrani had surveyed the spot a day before to hide the body. On the evening of April 24, 2012, Khanna killed Sheena in Rahul Mukerjea’s car in a street in Bandra. Then, the body was taken to Indrani’s Worli house, where it was hidden in a bag and put in the trunk of the car, according to the investigation.

Rai said that the trio then made a fateful journey towards Gagode village in Maharashtra, where the dead body was taken to be cremated.

What was the motive?

During the trial, some of the secrets of the Mukerjea family came to light. Sheena Bora was allegedly in a live-in relationship with her step-brother Rahul, who was with Peter Mukerjea’s first wife. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that financial disputes and Indrani’s disagreements over Sheena’s relationship with Rahul were the main reasons for the murder. Peter Mukerjea was also involved in this alleged conspiracy, which shows a picture of complex family dynamics, in which there was passion and conflict.

Indrani Mukerjea, jailed in Byculla jail for murdering her daughter, released a memoir titled ‘Unbroken: The Untold Story’, in which she said that Sheena Bora was not her daughter, but her sister.

In this city where dreams and terror come face to face, the case of Sheena Bora murder has become a terrible story, which is a dark figure in the sketch of criminal history.
